Touring TV Stations and Making Smoothie Bowls Your Everyday Kind of Things

Global Edmonton control room
The Breakfast Club is an amazing movie. Well...that is all for us this week on Cook, Create, and Contemplate. Just kidding, but how true is that opener? Nothing is quite like a coming of age movie, in which the characters break through social barriers. I can watch The Breakfast Club any day, any time, despite how I'm feeling. On the topic of awesome things, this week I was able to take a tour of the Global Edmonton news station! We arrived at the station bright and early (for me), 7:30ish, and were promptly escorted to the control room. The switchers and producers work the show from here, working in shifts according to what show they are producing. After we hung around the control room for awhile, we were invited down onto the set of the morning show. Surprisingly the set is comprised of a desk...that is it only a desk, the rest of the set is green screen. When looking around the set I initially thought there would be more of it, but it makes sense because they can switch it up at any moment. Now for the best part of the morning, or at least the most exciting, we were told to walk by Mike Sobel as he finished the weather! Gosh darn that was scary because it was live TV, and anything we did was going to be broadcast to everyone watching. I managed to not fall on my face while on live TV (so many thanks) so I was quite relieved by that. After finishing our 15 minutes of fame, we sat and watched the rest of the morning show until it was finished. We concluded our tour with a tour around the entire building including: the news room, the second studio, the Global news vans, and anywhere else you could imagine.
Well we have the first thing checked off our list for this blog, onto the second. Our next order of business is a 5 ingredient smoothie bowl!

What you will need:

  • 1 frozen banana and half of an unfrozen banana for garnish
  • 1/2 a pomegranate and the rest for garnish
  • 1 flavoured yogurt cup (I used apricot)
  •   1/2 cup milk (I used lactose free, but you could use regular or sub. out for a nut milk)
  • 5 ice cubes
Slice your pomegranate and hit with a wooden spoon for an effortless seed removal.
What to do:
  1. Prepare your ingredients: Remove seeds from pomegranate by holding a cut half of it over a bowl of cold water, take a heavy spoon (wooden) and hit the back of the pomegranate until all the seeds fall into the water. Slice your banana that you are using for garnish, and peel the frozen one.
  2.  Place all ingredients (not the garnish though ;))into a blender
  3.  Blend until smooth, you can add additional ice cubes if your smoothie is running a bit liquidy
  4.  Pour the mixture into a bowl
  5. Add your garnish on top (I also had some almonds hanging around so I added some of those as well)
  6. Snap some pictures for Instagram, and enjoy!
Don't you just want to dig in?
You are left with a silky-smooth-smoothie bowl garnished with some tart pomegranate seeds, perfect for any breakfast, or social media post ;).
Well there we go everybody, another day, another blog. I am super happy to keep having you all back! I hope to see you again next week, when a new post from Cook, Create, and Contemplate is uploaded.
